Nicolae Iliescu and Bucharest PHILARMONIA Chamber Orchestra

The PHILARMONIA orchestra was founded in 1983, in Bucharest. From the beginning, the orchestra enjoyed special appreciation for the quality and refinement of the sound, the quality of the repertoire, in which classical and preclassical music dominates.

The orchestra established itself from its debut by performing in concerts musical pieces of greater consistency, such as the integrals of Vivaldi, Corelli, Händel, and many other valuable works. The orchestra’s performance led to disc registrations of important musical parts such as L’estro Armonico by Vivaldi, Integral Grossi concerts by Corelli, Integral Grossi Concerts by Händel, works belonging to Mozart, Giuliani, Respighi, as well as some of the Romanian composers.

The PHILARMONIA orchestra has been invited to perform in concerts at various chamber music festivals in countries such as Bulgaria, Russia, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Austria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic. On those occasions, the ensemble received praise for its exceptional homogeneity and sound quality.

The PHILARMONIA orchestra has collaborated with the most prestigious Romanian soloists as well as with reputable foreign artists, among which we mention: Ruggiero Ricci, Victor Picaisen, Alberto Lisy, Mincio Mincef, Alirio Diaz, Barbara Hendricks.

The founder and conductor of the chamber orchestra, Nicolae Iliescu, graduated from the George Enescu scholarship. He distinguished himself with special appreciation due to concerts held in Romania, as well as in Greece, Spain, Austria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Asian and American countries. He specialized at Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, where he obtained exceptional results.

Nicolae Iliescu was the concertmaster of “George Enescu” Philharmonic and professor at the National Conservatory of Music Bucharest.
